Do Weimaraner Dogs Get Along with Other Pets?

In the same way that you need to be careful about keeping a Weimaraner around other dogs, you also have to be careful about keeping one with other household pets. If you think back to the second chapter of this book you will remember that Weimaraners were developed during the late 19th century to hunt large game like bear, boar, and deer. Once hunting for these animals fell out of style, however, Weimaraners were adapted to smaller game. This being the case, most Weimaraners have a strong prey drive.

Many Weimaraner owners have made the mistake of assuming that their dog will get along with other household pets only to discover that their dog chases their cat, other dogs, or even their young children around the house. While socialization and training can help to curb these behaviors, it is best to simply not put your Weimaraner in a situation where this type of problem could develop. Weimaraners do best in single-dog households, though some can get along with other dogs of similar size if they are raised together from a young age.
